Ficus elastica - Rubber Plant
A stunning dark tree that sprouts a beautiful foliage with tons of luscious tones and colours, this beauty has found its way into many UK homes over the past few years.
The name of the rubber plant doesn’t in fact come from its leaves, which do have a rubber look to them due to the thick and glossy look they produce, but from the white substance running through its steams which was at one time used to make rubber. It’s always easy to see why people mistake them for fake plants, what with them looking like rubber, and being called rubber.
A stunning dark tree that sprouts a beautiful foliage with tons of luscious tones and colours, this beauty has found its way into many UK homes over the past few years. Because of the colours, many people on first glace assume it’s a fake plant (the underside and sometimes go pink, and when matched with the white colours on top can look like a plant from a fairytale).
As with all rubber plants, it’s incredibly easy to look after (though is toxic to both humans and animals).
Tolerant to low light in the home, it loves a humid, well heated location, and because the leaves are so thick and strong, are incredibly easy to dust. A welcome addition to any collection due to its colour, shape, and appealing shiny foliage, it’s easy to see why The Rubber Plant has become a firm favourite in UK homes.
