Alocasia Baginda - 'Dragon Scale'
Hybrids are all the rage these days, and we’re not just talking about the cars. Hybrid plants are when two or more species are combined (sometimes naturally, most of the times by humans) into one, to create a striking, and many times, out-of-this-world looking plant. And the Dragon Scale is certainly other-worldly. A tropical evergreen that looks (and we mean ‘really looks’) like the skin of a dragon, it’s foliage looks silver in the light, and with the veins deep green provides a unique look.
Alocasia Dragon Scale is a variety of alocasia baginda, one of the 97 species of the eponymous genus of exotic plants with extremely decorative leaves from the Araceae family. Baginda alocasias are native to Borneo, where these herbaceous perennials with prominent features grow in the ground layers of tropical forests, meaning you should grow Dragon Scales in warm, moist, humid conditions for best results.
