Chamaedorea elegans - 'Parlour Palm'
In the wild, they grow in Mexico and Guatemala, and quickly made their way to the UK parlours once discovered. In the Victorian era, the parlour was the part of the home where you entertained guests, so you would want your best houseplants on display for all your friends (and rivals) to see. The Parlour still brings elegance to any room you place it in, with its bright green leaves on slender, arching stems being instantly noticeable. The leaves are pinnate too, meaning it has feathered leaflets arranged on either side of the stem for an extra striking effect.
Chamaedorea elegans is an updated hydroculture of the classic fern. Easy to look after, with excellent air purifying qualities too, they are easy going in regard to light, water, temperature and humidity, making them perfect for those of us that like low-maintenance plant-mates.
